The Sinner (USA)

In this remarkable new psychological thriller that plays with memory and perception, Jessica Biel stars as Cora Tanner, a young mother who is suddenly and mysteriously subsumed by rage and commits a shocking act of violence in plain view of others. Bill Pullman costars as Detective Harry Ambrose, who tries to understand why she did it, a question that no one, Cora included, can answer.

The Sinner is executive produced by rising independent filmmaker Antonio Campos, who also directed the pilot. Campos’ films, which include Afterschool, Simon Killer and his breakthrough Christine—about the real-life suicide of a newscaster—are unusually attentive to the mysteries of the human personality.
